Anyone who has been on the road to better, smoother, and more silky hair has ever seen or read the words "deep conditioning". What is it and how can you treat your hair in depth? We will discuss this in this article.

What is Deep Conditioning?

The Deep Conditioning process involves applying a rich treatment to the hair, such as a hair mask, and letting it work for some time. The product you apply to your hair should do its charm as soon as it settles in your hair.

Unlike a regular Conditioner, which you do every time you take a bath, deep conditioning is usually done with the help of a salon professional. Of course, you can do it yourself at home. However, if this is your first time, you can do it first in a professional salon.

Deep conditioning is not the same as using a Leave-In Conditioner. The result of a rinse-free conditioner usually lasts only a day or two. Deep conditioning takes longer.

In short, deep conditioning is simply putting the hair in a thick solution that contains a moisturizing component in the hair.

Who Needs Deep Conditioning?

Everyone who has hair needs deep treatment. The difference is how often we have to do it. For people with fine hair or with hair that has not yet undergone a chemical process, such as coloring or permanent hair, deep conditioning is good once or twice a month.

If your hair is structured, trimmed, or damaged, you may want to consider deepening more often (ends 3 to 4 times a month). Always be careful of deep conditioning, especially if you do it yourself at home. This process can lead to product buildup on the scalp if not done properly.

How To Do a Deep Conditioning Session at Home

The first step to deep hair styling at home is to find a treatment that suits you. Visit hairsense.ca, where you will find a wide variety of products that you can use for your deep conditioning.

Once You've Selected Your Product, Follow These Steps:

  • Wet your hair

  • Squeeze out a generous amount of product and apply it to your hair, focusing on the ends but also lightly working your way throughout the entirety of your head.

  • Wrap your hair up in a plastic bag or a shower cap.

  • Wrap a warm towel around your head with the plastic bag/shower cap still on. This will open up your pores and allow the product to penetrate deeper.

  • Leave it on for at least 20 minutes to a maximum of 1 hour (2 hours if deeply damaged or highly texturized).

  • Rinse
